Job Description

IMDS team

At Engineering, Energy, Matter (Materials) and Code are our true core business. At Materials Engineering Centre (MEC), we secure that the materials we use in our products reach our sustainability goals and have the right quality.

The Environmental Health and IMDS* group are the experts and have deep understanding of how materials, pollutions and substances impact the health and wellbeing of our customers and the environment. The IMDS team secure that we use correct data in our reports both internal and external. The team heavily rely on IT-tools, many of them developed by the team and some developed by Digital. The increasing interest in material data and what it can be used for has led to a high focus both within Engineering as well as from Global Sustainability and other stakeholders. Therefore, the IMDS team work closely with digital to develop exciting new tools to support our ambitious sustainability journey. We also explore possibilities to use machine learning to enable more efficient handling of data.

*The purpose of IMDS (International material Data System) is to secure legal requirements within the area of substance management and recyclability

What you’ll do
You will be part of the IMDS team. You will be part of building competence in areas where we are weak. Partly it will be done by self-studies, but also partly hand over from a team member that is leaving the team. You have at least 5+ years of experience within development at Volvo Cars. Preferably you have knowledge and experience from IMDS/PPAP process as well as from working with procurement and suppliers. Maybe you have worked as GDL or similar within Hardware. In that way you will bring in some experience that could make it much easier to get a head start into the tasks. If you have a background within data analytics and digital tools, then it is a plus.

Areas of responsibilities:

  • You will spend much time in understanding areas where we need to strengthen the team.
  • You will support the teams in various tasks within these areas.
  • You will take active part in relevant meetings within the group.

You and your skills

  • You have 5+ years of experience from working in product development at Volvo Cars.
  • You get motivated by helping and educate others.
  • You are structured and good at documentation.
  • Preferably you have experience from one or more of the following roles/areas; Design engineer, GDL, SQM.
  • You are familiar with the PPAP process and how procurement and suppliers are involved.
  • If you have worked with digital and understand the way R&D and Digital cooperate in digital tool development, it will be a plus.
  • IMDS knowledge not mandatory but surely will be an advantage.
  • You are a team player and prefer working in a team.
