Senior Python Developer for Leading Financial Institution in the Nordics

We are currently seeking a skilled Python developer for our client, a prominent player in the banking and finance sector in the Nordics. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical projects within a dynamic and evolving industry landscape.

Background our client operates at the forefront of the banking and finance industry, focusing on innovation and security. The need for a Senior Python Developer arises from an ongoing effort to enhance their Market Abuse Surveillance and Compliance capabilities. These efforts are crucial in monitoring Trades, Orders, and Communications for the client, ensuring adherence to regulations against market abuse, including insider trading and market manipulation. The project involves working with a third-party Actimize product, necessitating the development of ETL processes for data integration and manipulation.

Project Description

The selected consultant will be engaged in a Proof of Value (PoV) project for a period of 3 months, with the objective of evaluating Python as an alternative programming language to Java within the client’s technology stack. The focus will be on developing ETL processes that integrate with various data sources, including Kafka streams and database links, to structure output files for the Actimize product. This role is not entirely remote, requiring the consultant to be on-site at least two days per week to foster collaboration and effective project execution.

Competency Requirements

• Profound knowledge in Python programming, with experience in developing ETL processes.
• Familiarity with Java, DataStage, and Oracle, to assist in evaluating Python as a suitable replacement.
• Experience with Kafka or similar message streaming platforms.
• Understanding of financial markets, specifically in the areas of market abuse surveillance and compliance.
• Ability to work with SaaS products, especially for data input and manipulation tasks.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Actimize or similar financial surveillance systems.
• Prior involvement in financial sector projects, especially related to compliance and surveillance.
• Knowledge of database management and optimization.
• Proficiency in data transformation and analysis.
• Experience in working with cross-functional teams within a corporate environment.
• Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
